In 1997 the OCG launched the European Computer Licence (ECDL) in Austria. Today this well established international certification programme is known as ICDL (Internation Certification of Digital Literacy). ICDL training and testing takes place in schools and in institutions for continuing/adult education. As National Operator the OCG is responsible for the organisation and further development of the ICDL certification programme as well as for the approbation of ICDL learning material, ICDL Test Centers and the training of examiners.
Each training institution can apply to become an authorised ICDL Test Center. The OCG checks the complience with the international regulations of the ICDL Foundation to ensure the high quality standard. The inspecton of the premises and of the examination equipment as well as the certification of ICDL examiners (in the course of workshops) is carried out by the OCG.
Publishers may submit their ICDL learning material to the OCG for approval. The approval process starts with a contract and as soon as the required fees are paid, the OCG experts check the material for complience with the rules of the ICDL foundation. Upon successful completion of the approval process, the publisher is authorised to use the logo Approved Learning material.
