Privacy Statement

The Austrian Computer Society (OCG) is a non-profit association for the promotion of informatics and communication technology with due regard to their interaction with people and society. The association provides an interdisciplinary forum for current IT topics. (OCG Statuten).

In the course of our association’s activities we collect and process data of our members, of persons participating in OCG events and of persons who enter into contact with the OCG and give their consent to have their data processed.

We are committed to ensuring data security. We process your data in strict compliance with the law – General Data Protection Regulation (EU) and Austrian Telecommunications Act (TKG). This data privacy policy informs you about the most important aspects of data processing.

OCG Website

On our websites (including external online presence like our social media profiles) we present our goals, range of services and activities. To visit our websites, you do not have to provide any personal data. If you want to subscribe to our newsletter or want to use a special service, e. g. to register for any of our free events, we will collect personal data. You will find more detailed information on how your data is processed in the respective chapters below.

Cookies

Our website uses so-called cookies. Cookies are small text files which are stored on your computer by your web browser. They are not harmful. We use cookies to make our services more user-friendly. Some cookies remain stored on your computer until you delete them. That way your browser remembers who you are you when you visit us again.

If you do not want our cookies, you can change the cookie settings in your browser to be informed when a cookie is placed and choose to enable them whenever you want to.

Collecting access data, logfiles

We collect data based on the legitimate interests according to Art. 6, paragraph 1, lit. f GDPR about each access to the webserver (so called server logfiles). The access data include name of the website accessed, file, date and time of access, volume of transferred data, notification about successful download, browser type and version, operating system of the user, referrer URL (previously visited site), IP address and requesting provider.

For safety reasons (e. g. to help solving cases if abuse or fraud) logfile information is stored for a maximum of seven days and then deleted. Data which must be stored as evidence is excepted from erasure until the respective incident is solved.

Web analytics with plausible

Our website uses the web analytics service Plausible.

Plausible is intuitive, lightweight and open source web analytics. No cookies and fully compliant with GDPR, CCPA and PECR. Made and hosted in the EU, powered by European-owned cloud infrastructure. European Server

Plausible is a privacy friendly web analytics service, that allows us to understand user traffic on our website without collecting personal data. Plausible only uses information necessary for anonymous statistics about our website traffic.

Plausible collects the following data:

  • browser type
  • browser version
  • operating system
  • user´s country of origin
  • date and time of server request
  • number of visits
  • length of visit and external links clicked
  • user IP is anonymised before it is stored, i.e. your IP address is collected but immediately pseudonymised (e.g. by deleting the last 8 bit), ensuring that only a rough localisation is possible.

No IP adresses or other personal datat are collected which would allow identification of the user.

Newsletter

You can subscribe to our newsletter on our website. To do so, we need your e-mail address and your active consent, stating that you want to receive the newsletter.

To provide personalized and relevant information for you, we also process data about your fields of interest if you choose to provide them. With a so-called tracking cookie we collect anonymised statistical data about the use of the newsletter (open, click links).

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. To do so just click the respective link in the newsletter or unsubscribe by mail at info@ocg.at. We will delete your data regarding the newsletter without delay.

The e-mail newsletter is distributed the service provider eworx (eworx Network & Internet GmbH, Hanriederstraße 25, A-4150 Rohrbach-Berg) via its newsletter tool mailworx. Mailworx tracks the following information: when newsletter is delivered; when it is opened, how long it is opened, IP, address of opening, mail client used, which links are used, when link is clicked.

These data are only stored and processed to send the recipients relevant content. The data are only processed within the EU and neither shared with third parties nor merged with other data. Data are stored until the recipient unsubscribes from the newsletter.

You can withdraw your consent to storage and use of your date at any time. To do so, please contact info@ocg.at.

Events

When you register for an event via our website the following data is collected and stored:

  • form of address/gender
  • title
  • first name
  • last name
  • company/organisation
  • e-mail

Storage/Right of Erasure
The data remained stored for 5 years, then it is deleted.

For events for which a fee is charged, basically the same data are collected but they must be stored for 7 years due to Austrian tax law.

Legal basis
We use the personal data you provide to us only under the terms of contract we have with you and according to legal provisions.

Who can see your data?
We limit access to your data to OCG staff entrusted with the processing of personal data to provide our services.

As a rule, we do not share your data. In case of a co-operation event we share your data with the respective co-operation partner.

Members

To manage membership subscriptions, we process the following personal data:

  • Identity data (name, gender/form of address, profession if required)
  • Contact data (e-mail, address, telephone numbers, and similar data)
  • Address data (postal address)
  • Membership data (admission, category, date of birth if relevant for membership category)
  • Financial data (data necessary for invoicing)
  • Transaction data when you use our services (e. g. registration data for events)

Legal basis
We need the personal data you provide to us under the terms of contract we have with you. Without these data we are not able to admit you as an OCG member.

The purpose of data processing is to provide you with optimal service as OCG member, i. e. we inform you about events, represent you in international associations, send you publications etc.

To send you our publications we share your address data with a service provider.

Other than that, we do not share your data.

Storage/Right of Erasure
We will retain your data for the duration of your membership and beyond that for 7 years.

ICDL/OCG Exams and Certificates

Bebras Computing Challenge

Participants can register for the Bebras Challenge anonymously or with their personal identity.

In case of an anonymous registration, identity data will not be transferred to the OCG and only the teacher will be able to allocate the results to their pupils.

If participants register with their personal identity on the OCG website the following data will be collected and stored:

Participants:

  • First name
  • Last Name
  • Name of class
  • Grade
  • Optional: gender, date of birth, login and password

School co-ordinators (teachers who co-ordinate the participation in their schools)

  • First name
  • Last Name
  • E-mail
  • School
  • Password

The school co-ordinators pass on the personal data of the participants to the OCG.

The purpose of data processing is to transfer the results to the teachers and to issue the certificates. Personal data will not be shared with third parties. We evaluate the data only for statistical purposes in order to be able to improve our teaching programmes. These evaluations do not yield any information to identify individuals.

We collect and store personal only insofar as they are needed to carry out the Bebras Challenge. This applies also to information material and replies to individual questions.

Storage/Right of Erasure
We will retain your data for the duration of the annual Bebras Challenge, then the personal data of all participants will be deleted from the system. The data of the co-ordinators will remain stored to facilitate participation in the following years. The co-ordinator agrees to this policy upon registration.

ICDL App

We store e-mail adress of the user and the school (for authentification), a chosen user name (to represent the user on the scoreboard), the points achieved in the test (also for the scoreboard) and the learner´s progess (to enable learning across devices).

Data is deleted after one year of no activity or by using the in-app function "delete account". To register for the ICDL App the user must agree to the privacy notice.

Your Rights - Legal Information

You have various rights with respect to our use of your personal data: right of access, rectification, erasure, right to restrict processing, right to data portability and right to object. If you have any questions concerning these rights, please contact us.

If you believe that the processing of your personal data is in breach of data protection laws or if you believe that your rights have been violated in any way, please report your concern to the national supervisory authority Austrian Data Protection Authority.
